Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks

New online DBS check service now available

In 2012 the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) merged with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) to form the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

As a result, we now use the term, ‘DBS check’ to refer to the former CRB check process, although the process itself is unaffected by the change of name.

The Society is able to obtain standard (£65) and enhanced DBS (£85) checks on behalf of our members and subscribers. If you are not a current member you will need to join the Society prior to undertaking this process.

The procedure is simple – all you have to do is contact the Membership Team to request a DBS check and we then send you the details you need to go online and complete the application form.

Once you have completed the online form you will need to send original copies of your ID documents and the required payment to the Society. We will then verify and submit your check for further and final processing.

If you are self-employed or training on one of the Society qualifications this could be the simplest way to obtain a DBS check. If you require this check for enrolment on a Society qualification then you will need to undertake an enhanced check.

Please note – Your DBS check may be delayed if it has to go to the Metropolitan (Met) police.  More information regarding this can be found at this link.  Please don’t hesitate to contact the Membership Team with any additional queries you may have.  Email [email protected] or call on 0116 252 9911
