Welcome to the Cognitive Psychology Section!

The Cognitive Psychology section of the British Psychological Society was formed in 1978 as a national forum for the discussion of research and issues of professional concern to cognitive psychologists. The Section's activities include an Annual Conference, usually held in September, one or more specialist events in the year and symposia at the main Society Conference in March/April.

About the Section

Members of the BPS Cognitive Psychology Section comprise psychologists in industry, the health service, government departments, and colleges and universities. Their interests cover most aspects of cognitive psychology and related areas.

Membership gives you reduced registration fees at conferences and special workshops organised by the Section, including an annual conference. Symposia at our recent annual conferences have included face processing, working memory, and problem solving.

Please follow the Cognitive Section on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

If you are not already a member of the Cognitive Section and would like to know more about the benefits of joining then please see the Joining the Cognitive Section webpage. A standard membership is only £15, and student membership is £5. Membership gives you reduced rates for the section conference and you also receive the Cognitive Psychology Bulletin.

The Cognitive Psychology Bulletin is available from the BPS Shop. Click to see the contents pages for Issue 1 and Issue 2
