Claiming tax relief on DHP membership subscription fees

Members may not know that they can claim tax relief on all British Psychological Society membership subscription fees including membership of the DHP.  This includes general BPS membership subscription fees as well as subscription fees for membership of divisions, special groups and journal payments.  Further information about this can be found at the two websites below:

BPS - http://www.bps.org.uk/what-we-do/benefits-belonging/membership/income-tax-relief/income-tax-relief

HMRC- https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/professional-fees-and-subscriptions

You can claim by listing payments in your annual tax return or writing to your tax office with details of the total amounts paid for BPS subscription fees and your BPS membership number.  Some tax offices are happy to receive this information over the telephone.

You can also contact the BPS Subscriptions Department if you wish to find out more.  They can be contacted on 01952 214066 or by email at [email protected]
